Bryan Adams

Bryan Adams is a Canadian rock singer, guitarist, songwriter and photographer. Some of his best-known albums are Reckless, 18 til I Die, and Waking Up the Neighbours.Bryan Adams was already popular in Canada when the release of his third album ‘Cuts Like A Knife’ in 1983 brought him a large following in the USA. His fourth album, ‘Reckless’, often referred to as one of the most significant of the 1980s, sold over 4 million copies at the time and continues to sell now. His fifth album ‘Into the Fire’ went platinum. ‘Waking Up The Neighbours’, his sixth album in 1991, powered him to international stardom. The single ‘(Everything I Do) I Do For You’ spent 16 weeks at number 1; it broke a UK record that had stood since 1955 and still stands today. Across in the USA it became the second largest selling single to ‘We Are The World’. The song “Everything I do (I do it for you)” was featured in the film ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ (1991) and for this Mr Adams received his first Academy Award nomination. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe.
Adams was awarded the C.M. (Member of the Order of Canada) on April 20th 1998 and the C.O. (Officer of the Order of Canada) on May 6th 1988 for his contribution to popular music and his philanthropic work. He was also inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 1998, and more recently inducted into the Music Hall of Fame at Canada’s Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys) in April 2006. Notably, Adams refuses to attend the awards; as his manager, Bruce Allen explains: “they turned their back on the biggest thing to come out of Canada” - in reference to the hit “Everything I Do (I Do it For You)”. Adams has been nominated for three Academy Awards for songwriting, and was recently nominated for his fifth Golden Globe (2007) for his songwriting in the film ‘Bobby’.

Bryan Adams received a Golden Pen Award at a Gala Event in Hamburg May 14th 2009, to recognize his internationally successful career as an artist, photographer and founder of German-based Zoo Magazine. The award was presented by art director of Liebling Magazine, Mario Lombardo.

THE CORRS

The Corrs are a band from Ireland, consisting of three sisters and one brother from the Corr family, Jim Corr (keyboard, guitar, backing vocals, born July 31, 1964), Sharon Corr (violin, backing vocals, born March 24, 1970), Caroline Corr (drums, bodhran, piano, backing vocals, born March 17, 1973) and Andrea Corr (lead vocals, tin whistle, born May 17, 1974), who rose to prominence in the late 1990s and have since sold more than 55 million albums worldwide. They released their first album Forgiven, Not Forgotten in 1995, which had its greatest success in Australia, Sweden, Spain and Ireland, gaining later success in the UK and in Canada. The title track, ‘The Right Time’ and ‘Runaway’ were all singles that would reach within the top ten Irish Singles Chart. Success followed in much of Europe, Asia and Australia. Two years later in 1997 a second album Talk on Corners was released which was principally popular in Ireland, eventually raising them to astonishing fame in the UK, and later success followed in much of Europe, Asia and Australia. Both albums have been certified gold in the United States.

In 1999, they recorded an Unplugged album as part of MTV’s Unplugged series. The session was recorded live on 5 October 1999 in front of an audience at Ardmore Studios, Co. Wicklow, Ireland. In 2000, following the death of their mother, Jean, in 1999, they released their third studio album In Blue, which included the song ‘No More Cry’ which Andrea, the lead vocalist along with Caroline the drummer, wrote after the loss of their mother. The hit song ‘Breathless’ from this album also allowed the band to break into the U.S. The band took a break after this, allowing time for Sharon Corr to get married, and Caroline Corr to marry and have her first child, a son, Jake. A compilation album The Best of The Corrs was released in 2001 featuring previous released songs as well as new tracks. The new single that was only released and featured in this complication is ‘Would You Be Happier’. After six months from the album’s release, it turned multi-platinum worldwide. Selling just over 17 million copies worldwide, it is The Corrs’ most successful album to date; and one of the most succesful albums to come out of Ireland.
